Preview: A major force in African football, Ghana has won 4 African Nations titles,
second only to Egypt, so it's only fitting that it finally make their entrance
on to the world stage. The teams strength lies with their midfield, which
includes recent Chelsea transfer Michael Essien, ex Juventus winger Stephen
Appiah, and Udinese player Sulley Muntari. However, Ghana finds itself
sandwiched amongst 3 top flight teams in a very tough Group E, and advancement
will be highly improbable.
Result: Ghana surged past
Czech Republic
and the
United States
to
emerge in second place in what was considered to be a very tough group.
The advancement pitted the Africans against tournament favorites
Brazil, and the
3-0 outcome looked expectedly lopsided. Beyond the scoreboard,
however, Ghana outpaced
Brazil, and controlled the flow of the game.
Several poorly executed offside traps essentially decided the match against Ghana.
